Upgrading from Windows XP to Vista for most computer users was a disaster because we found that some of the system drivers would not work or did not work well with our printers or other accessories. Windows 7 is a well refined OS, yet it too has some obstacles that needs fixing. For example, Windows Update is irritating because sometimes it will deny you access to your computer while it automatically installs updates and will prompt you to reboot while you’re in the middle of something.

Microsoft also needs to fix the search feature in Windows 7. Using the Federated Search, you can add Flickr and YouTube to Windows Explorer searches, but the system does not work well and Federated Searches is not mentioned in the help menu. Backup and Restore is another problem with Windows 7. Although an external drive is no longer require for backup, the process is complex and the new backup feature is only available in the more expensive editions.

Finally, Internet Explorer 8 is bundled with Window 7, which is less innovative than other browsers such as FireFox and Google Chrome, and the document viewing interface allows users to create documents that are application-independent using a Microsoft PDF similar format, which is a portable document format that may not be supported by some OS’s.

Should laptops be used in the classroom? This is a topic that has been debated by many parents and educators. The question becomes are there any educational benefits to allowing students to use laptops while in class, and what are the negative affects.

Pros of Using Laptops in Classrooms

Students have access to unlimited research resources, and this can expand the learning experience. If a student is studying geography, social studies or history they can find a great deal of information on the Internet. Language software provides an advanced way of learning a new language, and many schools use computer programs rather than traditional methods of teaching a new language. Students have the ability to use public libraries, such as the Library of Congress which has a vast amount of educational data available.

Subjects like 3D modeling, animation, biology and health use computer technology. By using laptops in classrooms students can work on projects more effectively. There are many educational benefits of allowing students to use a laptop in class.

Cons of Using Laptops in Classrooms

One of the biggest drawbacks is that not all students have laptops, and this can be a disadvantage to some students if the school doesn’t provide laptops to use in class.

Another thing to consider is students using their laptops in class for non-educational purposes like accessing social websites or playing computer games.

Although there are some cons about using laptops in classrooms the advantages seem to out-weigh the negatives.

Windows 8 is the code name for the next generation and successor to the Windows 7 operating system. Many have wondered both when it will be released and if it will be another version of Windows Vista. Well Microsoft has official plans of launching Windows 8 sometime next year, in 2013. As far as Windows being similar to Windows Vista – I don’t really think so.

Microsoft knows how terrible of an operating system Windows Vista was. That’s the very reason why they creatively engineered Windows 7, which is still Microsoft’s current operating system. Windows 7 really did address nearly all of the bugs and quirks that were running wild throughout Windows Vista. A few minor enhancements were created in the graphics department, but the upgrade was nearly a complete bug fix release, with enhanced security and stability.

Windows 8 is exactly the opposite of a bug fix release. What Microsoft is doing with the next generation of Windows is simply making the user interface more user friendly and actually enjoyable. With Windows 8 Microsoft is trying to get PC users to have a closer relationship with their PC’s, and designing Windows 8 to be a wonderful, fluid-like operating system.

Microsoft is set to release an entirely new version of their Windows operating system. This time around Microsoft has “code named” the OS “Windows 8″. Microsoft has officially announced that the next generation operating system is set to be publicly launched sometime in 2013. But what did Microsoft decide to do with Windows 8 that’s different from Windows 7?

The coolest thing about Windows 8 is that it will look and feel totally different from any previous Windows version. Even with Windows 7 the feel was close to every other version of Windows. With Windows 8, users can expect to interact with a new interface similar to that of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 “Dashboard”. The interface will seem and appear “bubbly” and critics who have demo’d the new OS have all agreed that standard users will enjoy a much richer and more enjoyable, user friendly experience.

As far as technologists, advanced users, and experts go – maybe sticking with Windows 7 would be a good choice. However, the new OS hasn’t been officially released which means Microsoft may still choose to incorporate advanced user features and options, and perhaps sell an “elite” or “pro” version of the new Windows operating system.

I’m the type of person who really loves their computer. So it’s no surprise that I love my computer’s operating system as well. Microsoft has been in the business of creating top of the line operating systems for a very long time – since the 1990′s actually. There’s no reason why after making person computers so user friendly, Microsoft shouldn’t be considered the best of their class in designing and manufacturing personal computer operating systems. But what about Windows 7 – Microsoft’s latest version of their Windows lineup of operating systems?

Pros:
As far as pros are considered, Microsoft didn’t actually do that bad of a job with Windows 7. The USB recognition and interaction is far superior than it has been in any previous versions of Windows. The design is simply amazing! There are so many brilliant features and ways by which a user – even one new to computers – can change and personalize their desktop experience.

Cons:
As I said above, I love using my Windows 7 PC. But there is a problem that needs serious addressing. Windows has been know for, since the beginning – viruses. Windows 7 still has all the problems associated with viruses.
